On the initiative of farmers from the Logar valley and Dr. Šuman, the architect Jože Plečnik designed the chapel in 1930. The chapel was designed to be used for holiday mass, while at the same time it would serve as a memory of Dr. Šuman. However, Plečnik's plans were never realised. The current chapel is the work of the architect Martin Golob.
The bell tower contains a bell from the castle of the former Counts of Celje in Žovnek near Braslovče. It was ceremoniously placed in the chapel in 1969, 300 years after it was cast.
