LOGAR VALLEY – RINKA WATERFALL

A relaxing cycle tour through one of the most beautiful alpine valleys. From the start of the Logar valley to the Rinka waterfall at the end of the valley and back.

Route: start of the Logar valley – Palenk waterfall – Rinka waterfall – start of the Logar valley

Length: 14 km
Height difference: 270m (730m – 1,000m)

Terrain: asphalt road, forest, macadam and grass cycle trails

Route description: The route starts at the parking area in front of the entrance to the Logar valley (0.0km / 730m). The main road leads past the Juvanija tourist farm (1.3km / 735m) and the information office (1.9km / 750m) past Hotel Plesnik, where you can pay a visit to the Palenk waterfall behind the hotel. Follow the road across the meadow to the Plesnik and Lenar tourist farms (2.2km), the Ojstrica farmhouse and the Na razpotju guest house (2.5km / 775m). Before reaching the junction with the main road, turn left along the forest recreational path towards the Klemenča jama mountain pasture and cycle through the cool forest along the valley to the Dom Planincev mountain hut (4.2km / 850m). The path through the forest leads all the way to the Logarski kot alpine pasture (6.5km / 900m), from where you continue on the asphalt road that ascends to the parking area under the Rinka waterfall and the Rinka snack bar (7.8km / 1,000m). Here you can continue on foot for 10 minutes to reach the magnificent Rinka waterfall. Due to the narrowness of the valley, the return route is the same as the outward route, but nonetheless there are new views and attractions to be seen all the way.

THE SUNNY SIDE OF MATKOV KOT – PANORAMIC ROAD

Cycling along the sunny slopes above the Matkov kot valley past old farms with beautiful views of the western part of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps and the ridge of Veliki vrh, which separates the Logar valley from Matkov kot.

Route: Logar valley - Matk - Perk - Majerhold – Logar valley

Length: 15km
Height difference: 497m (730m – 1,227m)
Time required: 1 hour

Difficulty level: medium
Terrain: macadam and asphalt road

Difficulty level: Due to the long 10km ascent, the route is graded as moderately demanding. The ascent is 10-12%. The road is in good condition with a compact surface. The junctions are well marked.
Terrain: The first 8km from the Jezera turn-off to the Pavlič pass junction is a macadam road, and from there towards the Logar valley the road surface is asphalt.

Route description: From the Logar valley (0.0km / 730m) along the asphalt road towards the border crossing at the Pavlič pass. At the first crossroads (1.2km / 800m), turn left over the bridge onto a macadam road that leads alongside the Jezera stream into the heart of the alpine Matkov kot glacial valley. The road climbs slowly and leads past the turnoff (1.9km) for the Gradišnik farm with its archery centre to the Kočnar sawmill, above which there is a crossroads (3.6km / 920m). The road to the left leads further along the bottom of the valley (Matkov kot, Matkov škaf, Mrzle gora), while the road to the right leads steeply upwards (10-12%) to the Kočnar (5.1km, 1,030m) and Matk (6.5km / 1,150m) farms and the Perk (7.4km / 1,227m) tourist farm, followed by a slight descent to the crossroads for the Pavlič pass (border crossing with Austria) (9.2km / 1,160m). An asphalt road leads past the Majerhold mountain hut (9.6km) to the crossroads (10.3km / 1,095m), from where an asphalt road leads down to the right towards the Logar valley (14.5km / 730m), or you can continue to the left along the panoramic road towards Podolševa (Sveti duh) (17.8km / 1,240m) and on to the village of Solčava (26.2km / 650m).

SOLČAVA PANORAMIC ROAD

A scenic circular tour with views of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps.

Route: Solčava – Podolševa (Sv. Duh) – Logar valley – Solčava

Length: 25km
Height difference: 590m (650m – 1,240m)
Time required: cca. 2 hours

Difficulty level: medium with occasional demanding sections, one long ascent (cca. 10% incline) and less steep descent
Terrain: 11km of asphalt, 14km of macadam

Route description: From Solčava (0.0km / 650m) first cycle uphill (1km) on an asphalt road, and later on a macadam road alongside the Jurčef stream towards the southern slopes of Olševa. There are signposts directing pedestrians to visit the ancient yew tree or one of the tourist farms (Ramšak tourist farm 1.9km / 790m, Majdač tourist farm 2.7km / 890m). The road leads to a crossroads, where the right fork leads to Raduha and Črna na Koroškem, and the left soon leads to the end of the ascent (6.2km / 1,235m) with beautiful views of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. The hamlet of Podolševa with the church of the Holy Spirit (8.4km / 1,240m) is directly ahead. On passing the Rogar tourist farm, a hiking trail leads to the Potočka zijalka cave and further to the top of Olševa. After a slight descent through the forest and further along the road with panoramic views, you reach a source of acidic water (11.7km / 1,160m), then continue past the paragliding take-off spot and the Klemenšek tourist farm (12.5km / 1,140m), past the Ložekar farm with a ski slope (13.9km / 1,125m) and past the Žibovt tourist farm (15.3km / 1,100m) to an asphalt crossroads (15.7km / 1,095m). The asphalt road to the right leads to the Pavlič pass border crossing and further to Železna kapla, while the asphalt road to the left descends to the turnoff for the Matkov kot valley (19.1km / 785m) which you follow alongside the Jezera stream to reach the entrance to the Logar valley (20.2km / 735m). The main road leads back to the start in Solčava (25.0km / 650m).

IN THE EMBRACE OF OLŠEVA

Cycling along the macadam road beneath the sunny slopes of Mt. Olševa with an ascent to the highest lying farm in Slovenia - Bukovnik.

Route: Solčava – Ošovnik – Prodnik – Sleme – (turning for Bukovnik-Grohot) - Robnik – Ošovnik – Solčava

Length: 23km
Height difference: 677m (650m – 1,327m)
Time required: 2 hours

Difficulty level: demanding
Terrain: 1.9km asphalt, 21km macadam

Difficulty level: Due to the long ascent from Solčava to the crossroads beneath the Ošovnik farm (10-12%), as well as the ascent from the Prodnik farm to Robnikov peči (10-14%), this cycle route is rated as demanding. The roads are in good condition with a sand base. The junctions are well marked.
Terrain: From Solčava to the Ramšak farm 1.9km of the road is asphalt, then macadam. In Robnikov peči the flat part of the road is in a somewhat worse condition (not suitable for cars).

Route description: From the village Solčava (0.0km / 650m) the road leads towards the hamlet of Podolševa past the turnoff for the Ramšak tourist farm (1.9km / 740m). At the crossroads above the Spodnji Ušovnik farm (5km / 1,080m) turn right in the direction of Raduha, where the road levels off. Turn left at the road sign for the Prodnik farm (7.3km / 1,100m) onto a forest road that leads to Zgornje Sleme (9.5km / 1,308m) along the narrow old road under the walls of Mt. Olševa. A short descent follows to the crossroads of Spodnje Sleme (10.7km / 1,254m), followed by a short ascent to the highest farm in Slovenia – the Bukovnik farm (12km / 1,327m). From the Bukovnik farm descend on the macadam road down past the Robnik and Prodnik farms to the already familiar road – the one that you ascended earlier – for a 5km steep (10%) descent to the village of Solčava.

Attractions along the way: old Solcava yew tree, individual farms along the road and interesting architecture, the shape of the rocks by the road beneath Mt. Olševa, the mountainous world of Olševa and Raduha, the mountain pasture in Grohot, stunning views of the eastern part of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps.
